Hello and welcome to the first Helen Wright Writes official Blog Post! Taa Daa! Its so lovely of you to visit me and catch up with what I’ve been so busy doing 🙂
I’m always busy, working as a clinical nurse specialist Mon-Fri and I am a self employed freelance writer on evenings and weekends, but this week has been pretty full on even for me!
As usual there aren’t enough hours in the day (or days in the week) to fit in everything that I want/need to accomplish. I have just put the finishing touches to my latest article about Australian artist Carly Le Cerf (see Non-Fiction section for the full story) and have also written up my interview from last week with internationally best selling author Rachael Johns (see Interviews section for full article).
I am now researching a Christmas Feature Story for Aurora Magazine. Just for fun (ha!) I am also trying out the National Novel Writing Month Challenge (#NaNoWriMo) for the very first time and my word count is currently around the 10,000 mark. With just a couple more weeks to get to 50,000 words, but I’m trying not to get too stressed about it and just enjoying writing the story.
I am a regular monthly contributor to Aurora magazine in the Great Southern area of Australia, but this week I have sent a query letter to a new publication called Southerly magazine. I am aware that although I am a relatively newly published writer (and I love writing for Aurora) that I need to start broadening my reach and getting my work published in various magazines and newspapers to build a varied portfolio.
But the biggest news of all is…..I have launched this website! whoo hoo! This is my very first attempt at setting up a digital author platform and I have to admit that so far I am absolutely loving it! It’s taking a while to upload my stories and articles (I’d written more than I realised!) so please bear with me as I get everything sorted out and in the right place!
As of today I am officially accepting submissions for book and film reviews, fiction and non-fiction stories and potential interview subjects for publication on the website, as well as exposure on my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter social media pages. If you are an aspiring, published or even established writer I would love to hear from you, even if it is just for feedback on my site! My vision is for this website to be a platform for writers of all abilities to share their work, talent and knowledge for the benefit of all. I have been so lucky to get my work published and I would like to offer others the chance to do the same.
So please get in touch, I am so looking forward to connecting with you all, supporting each other and sharing our writing journeys along the way.
